What is success to you? How do you define it? How will you determine whether or not this is a "successful" basketball season?
A lot of people define success by how many games
they’ve won, how many championships, how much money they make. Most kids define
their success by what school they’re at, how many followers and likes they get,
what a certain group thinks of them. But, I want to share a few truths with you that I believe can change your season, and even change your life.
THE BIG TIME ISN'T A PLACE; IT'S THE STATE OF YOUR HEART
When your heart is right, you can make it anywhere.
Focus. Be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. Enjoy today. Embrace the
process. Love the people you get to walk your path with and most importantly, tell
them you love them. This is a real game-changer!
THE REAL MEASURE OF YOU ISN'T A COMPARISON TO ANYONE ELSE. IT'S COMPARING TO YOUR OWN BEST SELF
It’s YOU vs. YOU. It’s
US vs. US. Anything else will ultimately damage your chances of reaching your potential and rob you of the joy and excitement in the process. Unfortunately this is so difficult to do. Comparing ourselves to others is so engrained in us but ultimately it's self defeating. 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, "When we compare ourselves to others, we are agreeing with the plans of the enemy..." Galatians 6:4 says, "Don't compare yourself with others. Look at your own work to see if you have done anything..."
ARE YOU PLAYING THE PUT UP GAME OR THE PUT DOWN GAME?
Do you inspire people around you or do you talk behind their back to try
to make yourself feel better or look better? Everybody has weaknesses,
problems, issues – you’re not in position to judge anyone. But, when you build up others
and give them self-esteem and confidence – it’s a cycle that in turn continues
to grow your own self-esteem and confidence. The way to your own true success
is to help other people find theirs. Try it! Be intentional about it and see what happens!
MAKE IT A GREAT DAY! - THE POWER OF CHOICE
We choose to have a bad day or make it a great day. You can be a thermostat or
a thermometer. A thermometer reacts to the conditions around it – powerless to
change anything. A thermostat creates the conditions for itself and everyone
CARING & COMMUNICATING ARE GAME CHANGERS
People don’t care how much you know until they
know how much you care. Love is the greatest motivator. 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love."
